What types of companies are being targeted?
Enforcement against high-profile companies like Siemens and KBR has captured much public attention. However, enforcement officials are also targeting small and medium-sized companies. For example, the SEC brought a civil action against the telecommunications company Veraz Networks, a $175 million company with 500 employees. All companies doing business in other countries should implement effective compliance programs reasonably tailored to their particular risk environments.
